Microbial process for arginine production
(Inventors:
J. Gowrishankar et al.)
Brief description:
The invention
exploits the novel identification of mutations in a regulator gene
argP of E. coli that render constitutive the expression of
an arginine exporter ArgO. Accordingly, the invention describes processes
for increased production of arginine by fermentation, with the use of
E. coli strains carrying mutations in argR (that derepress
arginine biosynthesis) in combination with mutations in argP
(that lead to increased arginine export into the culture medium).
Utility:
Arginine is an essential amino acid that is used as a nutrient supplement
for parenteral hyperalimentation in clinical practice as well as in
stockfeeds for animals, poultry, etc.
